A Shocking Before and After

Looking back to last year's blog entry about my New Year's resolutions made me feel pretty good...because, in 2011, I actually kept one of them...I lost weight.

This Post may be the most embarrassing one since yours truly wrote about eating dog biscuits back in a March post. But I've vowed to "keep it real" on the blog so I'm going to reveal some of the ugliest "before" pictures you have ever seen...me at 188.6 pounds. These photos are for mature audiences only so clear all children (and men!) away from the computer. Oh...and get ready to laugh...I did (after asking my DH why he didn't just shoot me when I looked like I did then).

Here I am in 2004...proving that Denial is a lot more than a river in Egypt. (I can assure you that no hot guys were honking at this big mama as she drove by!)

And with my sister Nancy in 2006...we were both heavy then but doing a really good job of kidding ourselves about it. After all, what are sisters for?

Here is yours truly with my friend Claudia in February 2010...at an Italian restaurant, of course. My waistline did not need one more ounce of pasta!

I saved the best for last...here I am dressed as a "wizardess" for our July 2010 Gourmet costume party...white is clearly not the best color to wear at 188.6 pounds.

Hmmm, maybe adding a jaunty little wizard's hat will improve the look...
NOT!

And with Nancy again in September of 2010. She had been on chemo for four years by then (she called it her "cancer diet") but I was still piling on the pounds.

I joined Weight Watchers in October of 2010 out of sheer desperation. After seeing myself as the obese white wizardess, I simply could no longer kid myself: I wasn't "big boned"; I was fat. And the program worked. By December 31, 2010, I blogged that I had lost almost 20 pounds...I was down to 170.

I think losing weight is definitely a mind game. You have to be ready to commit to changing your lifestyle. I still hate to exercise but, by staying with the program, I was finally wearing size 10 jeans in this September 2011 photo...with 30 pounds gone.

In November, as I struggled across the grocery store parking lot with a frozen fifteen pound turkey in each arm, it suddenly hit me that that was how much extra weight I'd been dragging around all these years...two whole turkeys worth!

And now, at 150 pounds, I look and feel so much better...

And am comfortably wearing my first pair of size 8 jeans...EVER! Even I can't believe that...I was a size 16 when I started this journey 14 months ago.

I still have another 10 pounds to go to get to my goal of 140...I'm 5'5" tall and that is the weight my doctor would like to see me reach. I eat completely differently now and know that 2012 will be the year I'll make it to goal. When I do,  I'll celebrate by sharing the "After" photos...

I can't wait to write that post!

p.s. Thanks Mary Elizabeth...world's best WW leader ever...you and I will have all the hot guys in Maine running after us soon!

Oh my Cheryl what a fantastic accomplishment!!!!! Weight Watchers is rated the very best plan out there. You look wonderful in your size 10 jeans. I've been trying to drop 15 and it sure isn't easy. You have done a great job.

For me, it's not so much my weight as lack of physical activity over the winter months.
Kudos to you for your lifestyle change! You look fabulous!

You. Look. Amazing!!!! Great job! And thank you for "keeping it real". I had gastric bypass surgery in 2007 and lost over 135 lbs with that in about a year and a half. It was necessary to improve my health which was declining fast! It worked, however, I have since gained about 30 lbs back and am determined to get back down to my lowest weight. Thank you for being an inspiration for me!!! Congratulations on your success!

Congratulations!!! So wonderful you have lost weight and kept it off. My hubby had a similar experience last spring with vacation pictures, he has since lost 40 lbs and kept it off. I'm sure you are enjoying the benefits of improved health and well being! Again great job!!! Laura

Cheryl Good job with your weight loss. I have the opposite problem , but I guess neither is good for us. Food allergies over here. Did you have any special food you craved like sweets, or salty stuff ? That seems to do most of us in, and they both are not good for us. Your sister would be so proud of you, I am sure.
I'd love to do a dollhouse one of these days. I did one years ago, but gave it to my grandchildren just a year or two too soon.
Hope you have a happy new year with more peace in your heartl

An amazing story and journey. Weight loss is never easy and your story will prove an inspiration for many women who struggle. Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt story, pics and all. I've always been a yo-yo dieter and it wasn't until I took up running and exercise that I was able to keep my weight stable. That, and eating primarily fruits and veggies. Weight Watchers is the best weight control program out there, in my opinion. Congrats on accomplishing your goal! It's truly amazing and you should be proud!

Cheryl you are an inspiration! So proud of you for losing the weight and sharing your journey. It is the one thing in my life I feel so out of control with. Sigh....maybe this will inspire me to just do it. Congrats and you will hit your goal I know it! hugs, Linda

Hello lovely lady! :) Hey, if you lived closer I would definitely come over and organize your kitchen the next time I couldn't sleep! lol (oh...and forget about the dead cats...who could live with all those dirty diapers! eek!)
congrats on your weight loss! I SO need to lose weight, but my mindset is just not there right now. We are so busy with our family and church that I don't have two seconds to think about losing weight. I lost 53 lbs 10 years ago, but then go prego with my 3rd son and it's all gone down hill from there! :-o I'm sure I'll get motivated eventually to get it off, but right now I'm just trying to keep my head above water with everything else. (I will get there though!)
Hugs to you!

Congratulations! Good for you. One of my mom's proudest accomplishments was losing weight at Weight Watcher's and keeping it off. When she died I kept some of her Weight Watcher's booklets where she kept track of everything. It meant so much to her. I want to get back to exercising. It's hard to believe, but I used to walk about 4 miles a day and I did it for years. In fact, most of my adult life I've exercised and then real life got in the way...my parents became old and had health problems, my son was diagnosed with Hodgkin's, my husband now with prostate cancer...things just got too hectic. I know I felt so much better when I exercised and I've got to get back to it this year. I've got to find the time.

Cheryl,
I am amazed at how well you did! Will power is a great thing to have and something I need to find! LOL!
I have piled on the weight over the last 14 years. I need to lose weight due to health issues so I am trying. I am going to join the Fitness Center at work and see how that goes.... Wish me luck !!
You are an inspiration!!I will never be in a size 8 though! Even when I was 130, I couldn't fit in a size 8! Too tall and too big boned!!

Hugs,
Debbie
