Relay for Life

Found myself missing Nancy a lot today. In fact, I was in my office late this afternoon, holding her picture on my desk, when a teacher walked in with a special education referral. She said, "Oh, I'm sorry" and looked a little embarrased. I  told here that it was fine, I was just spending a quiet moment with my sister, and we both nodded. She got it. And then it was back to business. Here's the picture I was looking at....I love this one of Nancy:
It was taken only a few weeks before Nancy passed away and I love it because it shows her as she was...happy, laughing, and full of life.

Here's one more of  Nancy at Relay for Life last summer...no hair, skinny legs, but her enormous spirit shines through!
We're already setting up for this year's Relay, which will be held at the Windham High School track from 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25th to 6:00 a.m. Sunday, June 26th, 2011. Nancy started her team, Tufts Teal Warriors, when she was diagnosed with cancer and walked every year as our team captain. This year we will walk in her memory and  Nancy's husband, Aaron, will be our captain. If you live in our area, won't you consider joining our team? Just click here to register. We have fun...we bring lots of food... we usually have a camper to take turns sleeping in...and we raise a lot of money to help people with cancer.

We had our third snow day here in Maine yesterday...guess most of the country had snow...and I must have been thinking of  Nancy then too because here is one of the crafts I found myself working on...
I'm never quite sure what I'll do with all of the things I make but writing about Relay gives me an idea...maybe I'll make more things like this that we can use to raise more money at Relay...now that's a good Thursday night thought!

p.s. In case you missed this post, I'm still hoping to give away my handmade "LOVE" magnet before Valentine's Day. Hope you'll consider becoming a Follower...only six more for the giveaway!

Hi Cheryl-
This post makes me hopeful that someday I'll be able to put my Aunts picture on my desk and have a moment. Right now it's still hard for me.

I also like the tags you created very cute. I would use them for several things. They can be used as name tags for presents, luggage tags (if you laminate it) and I even thought about back pack charms.

Keep up the good work!!!

Hi Cheryl,
"Full of life" is definately a good way to describe Nancy in that picture. I love it. :)
I think about Nancy often and find myself thinking of her even more as we're getting ready for Relay. The committee meetings just aren't the same...there's something missing.
Although there's nothing anyone can do to fill that void, we're going to keep doing what we do - fighting - like Nancy would want us to, smiling - as Nancy always did, and doing our very best to keep her spirit and memory alive.
