What Does Home Mean To You?

After another crazy day at work, followed by two hours in the dentist's chair, I couldn't wait to get home. It is getting dark earlier now and that made the trip home seem even longer, and somehow, colder. As I drove, I thought about "home"...and why I was so anxious to get there.

To me, home is a safe and welcoming place...

Where I can wind down and take a few moments to regroup...

With someone who is always glad to see me.

It's my happy place.

It's home to my collections...

And home to my books, old and new...

Where Tom Swift and Stephen King live happily together in my cupboard.

Home is my cozy farmhouse kitchen...

With its autumn smells...

And warm memories.

It's the place where I can escape...

And create...

Where I can think up ideas...

And occasionally actually finish them.

And, after a long day, it's the place where I can change into my ugly cozy flannels, relax...

and dream about tomorrow.

What does Home mean to you?

Cheryl,
Great post!!

I know exactly how you feel about hardly being able to wait until you get home. Every morning when I come home from work and open that front door, I want to drop to my knees and kiss the floor!!LOL!!
I knew that I would not be able to travel great distances because of my health so I made my home into the type of place where I would want to stay while on vacation. My own B&B so to speak....
Everything I love is around me when I am home...

Hugs,
Debbie

What a beautiful heartwarming post. I love the photos that go along with your thoughts. It's obvious you took some time to create this post and that your home means a lot to you. Our home means most of those things but I can also add it's home to our dog, Marshall, who gets so excited to see us when we 'come home'. Our home would be empty without him though there are days that I get annoyed with his shedding hair and dirty paws! I enjoy my home and love to share it with friends and family. We are very blessed! Blessings and hugs, Pamela

Home is so important. You put it perfectly. I am missing home sooooo much since I've been away about 3 weeks now. I miss my 'stuff' and my bed and my guys and my comfort. hugs, Linda

What a great post this is. I loved all your comments with the accompanying pictures. I'm starting my second year of retirement. When my dad wants to me to run around for him, and I tell him I just want to be home, he doesn't get it. I really enjoy just BEING here, esp after so many years of rushing, rushing, rushing.

GREAT post! I feel exactly the same-except it's ugly t-shirt and shorts for me! Thanks for the post-it brought a smile to my face!

Home is just that safe place, no matter how old we are. My girls are older and their idea of home, I think, is getting on an airplane and going to visit all their cousins from the East coast to the West coast.
I am still trying to figure it out.
It's individual, I think. Whatever makes you feel good, I say, "'go for it !".

Love this post. Home provides that warm fuzzy feeling where you can be yourself and everybody loves and accepts you for who you really are.

I love your blog and am now a follower. I found you through a comment you made over at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. My favorite book is on your book list ... A Prayer for Owen Meaney. I don't come across too many people that have even heard of the book.
