Would you buy this?

I saw this apothecary jar at a junk shop recently and debated whether or not to buy it.  I loved the wavy glass, vintage label, original cork, and little piece of string around the neck. The price was right...only a  dollar, but...
not being a chemist, I wasn't sure what that scary looking white stuff was inside.

Calcium Chloride? Anhydrous? for drying tubes? What kind of tubes? test tubes? ear tubes? fallopian tubes? vacuum cleaner tubes? I think I should have paid more attention in Chemistry 101.

I had visions of myself in a hazmat suit and rubber gas mask pushing the breakfast dishes aside to spoon the mysterious white powder down the disposal.  And wondering what my husband would say when I told him I blew up the kitchen.

So...as much as I loved the bottle, I walked away but, have been wondering since...

Should I have bought it?
What would you have done?

definitely, I would have...I have a thing for old bottles and I use them in my art to resale. Lezlee

I probably would have bought it first and asked later because old bottles like that are hard to find; however, you make lots of sense. There's no telling what's in there!!! Yikes!

I would have bought it but I have no idea what's in it! It's probably better to be safe :-)

Thanks for linking up to my party!

I would have bought it too...hmmm...maybe somebody out there can tell you what it is??? Wouldn't it be funny if you had it tested and it was just refilled with bath salts :) Laurel

I would have bought it and not given a thought to the contents...you are smarter then me!! Still it's pretty neat bottle.

I worry about everything...I wouldn't have touched it! It is cool though.

I would have bought it! Maybe it was just bath salts that the dealer put in there to make it stand out?!?

I totally would have coveted that great bottle but would have thought the same thing...what is the white stuff inside? What if it's cyanide or something crazy like that?? (I know that's not likely, but I always go to the worst-case scenario! :)) I would have passed, but I would have continued thinking about it!

I'd have bought it...the label is amazing! I'd have just kept it sealed until I found out what it was and if it was something that could blow up the kitchen, I'd have kept on keeping it sealed.

We do not all have the same taste, which is a blessing. I would not have bought it, but I plain do not need anything.

I love old bottles but I don't think I would have bought it for the same reason you had. Makes me a little nervous to think what might be lurking in there. I passed on a couple of cool little bottles at a garage sale about a month ago for the very same reason!

Yep...most likely would have, in fact, I think my husband has one almost like it! Of course we don't open it up, but I never thought of being leery of it! Happy VTT!

I think I would have bought it. The stuff described on the label is used as road salt to prevent dust on dirt roads and ice when the temperature is close to the freezing point. You can also see it in pill bottle lids or the little bags packed in the box with a camera or shoes etc. to keep the goods dry.

I have old bottles with distressed poison, etc. labels, copied off the internet that I put out for Halloween. This would have fit right in. Maybe super glue the cover on just in case of an accident.

I think this stuff is also used for drying flowers.
